|First published as I Signori del Cielo, 1st edition 2003, published by Artiglio Editore, Alessandria. This is an interesting and detailed account of falconry as pursued by the Dukes of Mantua and their court during the Italian Renaissance. |
All known aspects of the subject are covered, as are those areas of everyday life upon which falconry impinged. Many excellent illustrations, of artworks, of contemporary documents and maps.
Translated into English by Valeria Taylor. This new English translation has been revised by David Horobin.
The book “Lords of the Sky” was previewed during the Second Falconry Festival, held at Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates from 10 to 18 December 2011, to celebrate the recognition of falconry as part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
